5 months "pre-Okinawa"

I wanted to write down some of my goals I have been thinking about for the next 3 years we are going to be in Okinawa.  There is so much I'm looking forward too!

1. Getting over my fear of water.  This hopefully won't take long as the island is known for the incredible snorkeling and beautiful blue waters!  I'm not sure why I'm so scared.  I can't keep a steady, consistent, CALM breath when I try to swim laps or put my head under.  I get water up my nose when I dive in and my eyes burn from the chlorine.  This can't continue... And im sure with Tony's help (I can see the "fights" now) I will get over this.

2.  Learning Japanese.  By no means do I think that I'll be fluent, but I am really excited to learn.  Hopefully i'll be able to understand and  have enough in my vocabulary that others will understand me.

3.  Camping & Rock climbing.  I've always enjoyed both of these things - but I've never been really good.  I haven't had the tools to camp comfortably, nor have I had the amount of experience needed to be a great rock climber.  I'm hoping this can change!

4. Letting go of my love for Minneapolis.  Just for a few years anyway ;)..  Okinawa will be such a different pace of life.  Different culture.  Different people.  Different part of the world.  And each day as much as I will miss my family, friends, and the city I love - I'm going to soak up every bit of the island life I can.  That's a goal and a promise.

5. Read more. I'm not sure what makes me think that I can't read enough here in the states, but there's something about moving half way across the world that just makes me want to be very well-rounded. I want to learn about the Okinawan culture, better my knowledge of American history, and teach English as a 2nd language.

6.  Be the most supportive and adventurous wife I can be.  And no matter how far my friends and family are - work hard at being the best friend, sister, and daughter I can be.
